Dad on Duty – Christmas

So, total “miracle on 34th street” moment a couple days ago.

Tori and I are walking the dogs, as we do on average of 1.5 x per day, everyday. We take pretty much the same route, with small detours, so the dogs can visit their friends.

We are walking by a house we’ve gone by, literally, 700+ times. We superficially know the family there, youngish couple with kids around Tori’s age.
Tori is 30 ft ahead of me, walking the puppy. In the front yard of this house is sitting a fat old white guy with a white beard, sitting on a red chair.

Really. I sh^@ you not.

Never seen this dude, ever. And, remember, we’ve walked by this house almost everyday for 2 years.

As Tori passes him, he talks to her. “Having lights installed so my reindeer can find this house”. Sure enough, there’s some dude on the roof putting on lights (also never seen him before…).

Tori, politely, says “that’s nice”. And keeps walking. He says “Merry Christmas”, and she says “thank you”.

I pass the guy and he just gives me a wave. Wearing robe and slippers, strikes me as the grandpa who’s living with the young family cause he’s sick…but I don’t know that…
